The Final Blow
In a decision that could be the final blow to Judge Roy Moore’s crusade of religion, the United States Supreme Court refused to hear his appeals. This, in essence, lets stand the decision of the State of Alabama to remove the monument from public view in a public building.
“It’s not unexpected, completely unexpected the Supreme Court would decline to hear these petitions, indeed just last year they overturned the precedent which had existed for nearly 20 years regarding sodomy,” Moore said.
Moore can’t even get history right. It wasn’t “just this past year”, it was just this past June during the height of Pride Season that the Supreme Court issued their decision in Lawrence v. Texas and overturned their previous ruling of Bowers v. Hardwick. Or better put, “Bowers was not correct when it was decided,” wrote Kennedy, “and it is not correct today. It ought not to remain binding precedent. Bowers v. Hardwick should be, and is now, overruled.”
Moore faces a court of his peers next Wednesday when he goes before the Court of the Judiciary and faces charges of ethics violations. He still, to this day, claims he did nothing wrong and was upholding the oath of his office. I don’t see how anyone can argue they did nothing wrong when they repeatedly defied a federal judges ruling. If I, as a simply citizen of this great nation, were to defie a federal judges ruling, I would be placed under arrest and put in jail.
We’ll see where things go from here though.
