I Wish I Knew How To Quit You

Believe it or not, Brokeback Mountain arrived in Birmingham last Friday to sell-out crowds.  What was the biggest surprise to me… There were no holy-roller protestors standing out front.  I figured some group would be there protesting the movie.

Rave Motion Pictures Vestavia is the exclusive theater for Birmingham.  They screen four showing a day and I encourage anyone in the area to go see this movie.  It truly is outstanding and breathtaking.

As of last night, Brokeback Mountain is on its way to clean up for awards season.  Brokeback picked up three awards from the Critcis Choice Awards.  Ang Lee won for Best Director, Michelle Williams for Best Supporting Acctress and Brokeback Mountain for Best Picture.  Five of the last six winners of Best Picture at the Critics Choice Awards has gone on to win the Oscar for Best Picture.  The future looks bright for this film as well it should.  No one can argue the “A” List status of Jake Gyllenhaal and the fact that finally, an “A” List actor chose to go gay for a major motion picture.  Heath Ledger seemed to be almost down and out after several of his recent films but this will solidfy him as one of the new “A” List actors as far as I’m concerned.

I can’t say it enough… If this movie is playing anywhere near you, go see it.  Make it a point to see this movie if you don’t see anything else all year long.  This is one of those rare movies that comes along and just simply plays so well on the bigscreen because of the cinimatography and wide open panoramics.  You can’t get the same feeling from your tv when it comes out on video.  Go see this movie.
